Ancient Greek Armors
Greaves from Phillip’s B’ tomb ( Aiges Museum, Macedonia)
4th Century BC
Τhe pair of greaves have been modeled on the basis of the original ancient greaves, today are being exhibited at the Aiges Museum( North Greece) and dated back to the middle 4th century BC. They were part of the rich findings of Phillip’s tomb. Their general muscular form & shape follow the artistic imperatives of the late classical period characterized by asymmetry in the anatomy and a strong sculptural mood. They do not bears holes on their rims,as a result no stitched folded leather has been used. Their inner sides have been covered with wool and fabric lining(linen). They are held on the shins only by the pressure of their side walls.
The greaves have been traditionally crafted by 1,2 mm copper alloy sheets.
