Mycenaean Armor
Mycenaean Sword (1450 BC)
1450 BC
Reproduction of Late Hellenistic period swords (1450 BC) based on a find excavated in the area of Athens. The blade is made of bronze, it is two-sided with a central rib running its full width and has a total length of 76 cm (including the handle portion). Noteworthy features are their small width and integrated handprotectors with their characteristic anatomy. The sword belongs to category Ci, archaeological findings testify to its spread among the broader Aegean region , the coastal zone of the Middle East as well as in Eastern Europe (in various variants). The handle is made of dried Attic Olive tree and permanently fastened with bronze rivets on place. The pommel like handle is also made of olive wood treated with a lathe and rests on the protruding brass handle of the handle with the help of a safety pin. The pommel handle could possibly have either a repousse like or stone decoration.
The seath is made of durable leather, with double seams stiched by hand. The exterior is covered with an embroidered thin bronze sheet with rosettes on one side and a decorative purple tassel and a hollow rosette on its side(repousse techigue). The waistcoat is made of heavy leather and carries equally print-based ornament elements on a bronze sheet.
A genuine museum-level reproduction.
